pdf-inspector WebAssembly engine (Firecrawl). Rust parser tuned for tables and multi-column reading order; also detects scanned pages and tells you when OCR is needed. Loads a one-time ~4.6 MB module locally on first use.

Lightweight specialists: mammoth.js for Word, SheetJS for Excel/CSV, and a built-in reader for PowerPoint. Small downloads (0.1-0.9 MB) and the proven default.
